Our History

Helping Arizona REALTORS® succeed since 1946.

On November 29, 1946, six charter members with G.A. White as president formed the Glendale Board of REALTORS®. The territory assigned to the board was everything west of Phoenix to the Maricopa County line. The board became a member of the National Association of Real Estate Boards in 1947. In 1969, the name was changed to Glendale-West Maricopa Board of REALTORS® to reflect its membership more accurately.

Significant changes took place in 1982. Sun City area brokers formed their own board, the Sun City Area Association of REALTORS®, to serve the members in the Sun City area. Meanwhile, the Glendale-West Maricopa Board became a 25% shareholder in a new venture, the Arizona Regional Multiple Listing Service, Inc. (ARMLS®), along with the Phoenix, Scottsdale, and Southeast Valley Associations.

In 2003, the Sun City Association changed its name to the Lake Pleasant Regional Association of REALTORS®. In December of 2006, the Glendale-West Maricopa Board of REALTORS® and the Lake Pleasant Regional Association of REALTORS® joined forces once again to form the West Maricopa County Regional Association of REALTORS® (WeMAR). This new Association had membership levels around 3,000-4,000 REALTOR® members.

In efforts to aid smaller Associations, CEO Roger Nelson stretched our boundaries to Southern Arizona. In April of 2018, the Douglas Association of REALTORS® merged with WeMAR, followed by the Western Pinal Association of REALTORS® in December of 2018.
Over seven decades, the Association grew from six charter members to be the second-largest REALTOR® Association in the state, with over 9,700 REALTOR® members and 600 Affiliate Members. The story doesn't stop there.

In October of 2018, the SouthEast Valley Regional Association of REALTORS® (SEVRAR), also founded in 1946, and serving over 13,000 members, and WeMAR began discussions about collaborative opportunities. Eventually, the talks turned into a discussion about bringing the two Associations together as one to provide new advantages and more value to members, with access to multiple locations throughout Maricopa and Pinal Counties.

One year later, on October 29, 2019, the National Association of REALTORS® approved the merger of the largest and second-largest local REALTOR® Associations in Arizona as the West and SouthEast REALTORS® of the Valley (WeSERV). Combined, the Association serves over 23,700 REALTORS® and Affiliates and is now the fifth-largest REALTOR® Association in the country.

Much has changed since 1946, but the Association's commitment to delivering the best service and support to its members has stayed the same. The Association is on a mission to provide services that lead to member prosperity.
